I have medium brown hair, that I'm getting VERY bored with, and would like to color my hair. I'm thinking of a nice brown with just a hint of red. I've been told t hat over the counter hair color is hard on your hair. Can anyone suggest a brand that won't damage my hair, and any suggestions for care after coloring? What is the best brand of over the counter hair color to use?
Coming from someone who has colored her hair many many times. The store bought colors are not that bad....as long as you just condition your hair daily you will be fine. My favorite brand to use is Feria...the color always comes out right and it seems to last longer than some of the others. What is the best brand of over the counter hair color to use?
I have been coloring my hair for 12 years. It is actually good for your hair nowadays because the peroxide has been replaced with soy. The tubes of condtioner they come with are the BOM and it's now the only conditioner I put on my hair. I also like Feria and all Loreal dyes, particularly Preference. I use these two exclusively. For about three years, I used a color of Preference called ';medium reddish brown.'; It is a very popular color. If you have seen the Andie McDowell commercials for Loreal, it is the color she uses. It is mostly brown with a hint of red, and it shows more in the sunlight than inside. Beautiful. I now use just plain brown, as I am getting older and not so much into the red now. Very hard to mess up. Mix the small bottle into the large one, soak your hair with it, massage in VERY well, clip up, wipe excess off your bare skin, wait 25 minutes, rinse out, condition, rinse again. Cover walls and floors with old sheets or something. I am so used to it now I hardly have to do that any more. But hair dye is hard to get off porous stuff. And it will ruin your clothes, so wear a ratty old tee shirt. BTW, your hair will feel so good the first couple of days after you color it because your hair gets coated and will feel thicker and silkier. Best of luck!!!!
