What is the difference between salon hair color and the stuff you can buy at the store and do at home?

Are there chemical differences? Or are you just paying extra for the salon professional to do the work? What is the difference between salon hair color and the stuff you can buy at the store and do at home?
chemically, no there is not a lot of difference... the problem with it is that a consumer cannot control the level of peroxide that is needed and does not know how to determine things like porosity and texture which is a big part of coloring hair. hair is chemistry and it's more than just picking out a color and slapping it on... If you don't know what you're doing, you won't end up with what you want...

so in other words... if you mess up you only have yourself to blame and will probably end up spending way more to have someone correct it for you...

leave it up to the pro's ;)What is the difference between salon hair color and the stuff you can buy at the store and do at home?
whenever i go to a salon my hair looks alot more natural with highlights in my hair. just alot prettier. also, the color stays alot longer when my stylist does it.
If i use the home stuff my hair looks like a block of color, even when someone helps me. if the salon does it, it looks like natural healthy hair tone color. They tend to mix up the color by hand so can layer the tones and its intensity.
