the best thing to do without recoloring is to try to make your color fade a bit. you can wash your hair with dish soap or laundry soap. both of which are much harsher than shampoo so i wouldn't do it often or repeatedly without hardcore conditioner in between.
using a clarifying shampoo will also help strip the color out. but that will take much longer than the other 2 options. I've also heard of a molasses/baking soda mix but i'm not sure on the ratio or how harsh it will be to your hair.
if you just wait a few days the color will be much less intense anyway. at home jobs always seem to be really vibrant for 2 weeks and then they lose a lot of their luster. don't get me wrong. i'm a do it yourselfer too, but thats just how it seems to go. the color is really intense for 2 weeks and then it calms down a lot.I need help hair coloring advice?
i think you should try highlighting it with medium brown, and try using that brunette shampoo from the john frieda collection, its called ';brilliant brunette.'; maybe it will turn lighter. good luck w/ your hair. :)
happy to help, janice
