so is the medium brown your natural color? and you want to go back to that? because usually the only time hair color washes out is if your doing it over bleached hair. unless its been awhile since you last lightened it then redying it dark should wash out too much. i have really light brown hair naturally and i used to dye it black. so going from black back to light brown i had to bleach it out and wait awhile for my hair to get back to a little better condition and then dyed it slightly darker than my natural hair color. that way when it did wash out, it only was a little but it was washed to my natural looking color. so try dying it a little darker than your naturl that way what does wash out wont matter..help at all? sorry if its confusing! and good luck:)How can I go back to my natural hair color without it washing out?
no problem! glad i could help:)

It sounds like your hair has been over processed. Either go to your local salon supply store, some place like a Sallys and ask for a hair color ';filler'; and any advice, or go to an experienced beautician. You probably will end up with better results with a professional this time around. I would consider streaking with two colors that you think match your own roots. One color will end up matching much better than the other and it's often a big surprise which one it ends up being.
try to strip out the color; you can usually find strip chemicals by the hair color at the store
just dye it a similar color to your natural color.
Same as Emillie.
Dye it one more time.
