How hard is to go from medium dark brown to ash brown for hair color?

I want to dye my hair for the New Year. Currently, my natural hair color is medium dark brown. Do I have to bleach it or anything before going to a lighter ash brown?How hard is to go from medium dark brown to ash brown for hair color?
Box color is very riskay. I can't tell you what color it will actually turn out to be, but I can tell you that color doesn't lift color, in other words if you already have color on your hair, don't expect to get something lighter without seeing some funky tones. Also ash you have to be careful-it can pull some cool tones, (Grayish) that are often very undesirable. nope. you should be fine just dying it. if your using box color you should go one color lighter cuz box color makes your hair darker everytime you dye it.
