How long does permanent hair color last?

I had highlights in my hair (bleached down to blonde and dyed over red) and recently went to a salon and got my hair dyed back to my natural color (almost black) with permanent hair dye. I've washed my hair about four times since then with color save shampoo, and the result is what looks like light brown highlights, getting lighter with every wash. Is this normal? Is it normal for permanent hair dye to wash out this quickly?How long does permanent hair color last?
Permanent die should last untill it grows out, thats why its called permanent. You should go back and see your hairdresser and complain

If i was you i would go and get a complementry hair dye to fix up what the hairdresser has done :)

that is not normal.. the hairdresser should have stripped your hair first to get rid of the lighter colour so that the permanent colour could have stuck to your hair better, if that makes sense.. and it also could be the type of shampoo and conditioner you'r using as most supermarket bought shampoos and conditioners puts a cilicone layer over the hair so colour then wont stick.. permanent hair colour is expected to last untill ur hair start growing for the regroth to come through.
