What kind of hair color is safe for pregnant ladies ?

I am 16 weeks pregnant and wanted to know if I can dye my hair with a store bought hair color. Is it safe for the baby?What kind of hair color is safe for pregnant ladies ?
I read that it's best to wait until the third trimester. I dyed my hair (in my 3rd tri.) with a store bought dye that was ammonia free. It was a waste of money though because I got a guilty conscious and washed it out after about 5 minutes.

There aren't enough studies to determine which brands or how much hair dye is safe during pregnancy. A small amount of the chemicals do enter the blood stream through the scalp. It is unknown how much of this chemical can cause harm. One study showed that when pregnant lab rats were directly injected with massive amounts of the chemicals commonly used in hair dye, some of the unborn fetuses did have neurological defects. Some Drs say not to do it until after the first trimester and some say don't do it at all. I say..it is only 9 months, and until studies prove something is completely safe to do or take while I am pregnant, it isn't worth the risk to me. I can wait 9 months to do something as unimportant as dying my hair.
when i was pregnant my ob told me that it was ok to use anytime. he told me in the first trimester my hair would probably not take the color right and would turn out crazy. (later confirmed by my hairdresser) after that it still had a chance of not being quite right (from all the hormones)

Basically any chemical free and ammonia free dye is fine.


Just make sure your hair is dyed in a well ventalated room.

They say no hair dye is safe until after the first trimester...some doctors say no to use it even then because it's still up in the air if that could cause some problems...
Please wait to dye your hair until your third trimester. That is the time the baby just grows larger.
everyone is different,i colored my hair the whole time, with both pregnancies
they say its ok to use it but im not untill my baby is born.... good luck and congrats :)
