Whats the difference between foils and permanent hair color?

Im planning on getting my haired dyed at a salon tomorrow, but I noticed that the prices for foils and permanent hair color are different (foils cost more). Whats the difference between these two procedures? I thought when you dyed your hair, they used foils anyway?Whats the difference between foils and permanent hair color?
Foils is more healthy, but doesn't give you 100% coverage, even with a full head. Permanent colour goes into the roots of your hair and takes along time to grow out. hope that helped more =)

Foils 'tin foil' in your hair to seperate color from hair that's being colored another color, or non colored hair. Permanent color is what you color your hair for.
