Hair Coloring Advice!?

I tried a semi-permanent home hair coloring kit a few days ago to make my blonde hair a little darker to match my natural color. I wasn't satisfied with the result (ashy brown) so I used a permanent dye called ';Dark Golden Blonde'; over that. The result is a weird, reddish brownish color. What did I do wrong and any advice?

My advice right now is to go purchase a bleach toner - 20 volume developer. Since your hair is already brown (lightish I'm guessing?) 20 volume would work. What it's going to do is lighten your hair to a dark blonde shade (ACTUAL BLONDE). It might turn it orange or brassy yellow. Any which way it does (as long as it is in a blonde stage) is good. Then you can proceed to dyeing over it (after a day) with the new blonde color you choose.

That was your mistake the first time. You should have bleached it or pre-lightened it first, then dye it.Hair Coloring Advice!?
what different hair color companies call ';dark golden blonde'; varies. sometimes ';dark blonde'; actually means what i would consider brown. sometimes also hair that is more porous (damaged from coloring it or from whatever other reason) can sometimes grab color darker than more healthy hair would. most likely, the color should fade pretty quickly either way since you put it over blonde hair. if it doesn't fade soon and you can't stand waiting, you can always try a color stripper too. you can get it at sally's or any other beauty supply store. a color stripper takes artificial color out of hair and would bring it back to the blonde you had before.
maybe the colour you have first, wasnt a good match to the one you used second. or perhaps u kept it on to long or not long enough ? hairdressers can fix this if ur not satisfied.
you needed some toner...

you can get it at hottopic

results are amazing
